Predictable Security

Your money is secure with TCDRS

Considering recent economic news and financial market turmoil, we understand why you may be concerned about the security of your retirement account. Let us assure you, this system is designed to keep your benefits secure, even in trying times. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Your account is credited with interest regardless of market ups and downs.
Members receive 7% interest on their accounts every year, according to state law. Only the Texas Legislature can change that interest rate. TCDRS' investment return in any single year does not affect your account balance or benefit payment.
  • TCDRS has a diversified investment portfolio.
Our diversified portfolio and long-term investment view enable us to weather volatile short-term market conditions. For more information on TCDRS investments, click here.
  • Your account retains its value, no matter what happens in the investment markets.
For members, that means your account will continue to grow and earn 7% compound interest. For retirees, that means you will continue to receive your benefit payment every month.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call Member Services at 800-823-7782. We'll be happy to talk to you about your retirement account.
