HEDGE FUND ANALYST

The Hedge Fund Analyst will work with TCDRS’ portfolio manager, the hedge fund associate and consultants to oversee the trust’s hedge fund and opportunistic credit portfolios. These portfolios consist of a globally diverse set of event-driven, credit/distressed, equity long/short and global macro investment strategies.   

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare monthly reports: analyze exposure and attribution by sector, region, market cap and capital structure; simulate portfolio returns given current exposures and positions; review changes to fund and firm; analyze investment strategy for style drift; review documents for major shifts in fund exposures, assets under management, liquidity issues, etc.; other reports as needed
  • Meet with hedge fund managers in Austin as necessary
  • Properly file and retrieve fund correspondence
  • Prepare and provide other miscellaneous reports to Hedge Fund Manager, Investment Officer and other TCDRS staff/relationships with respect to the hedge fund portfolio

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree is required in field related to finance/economics; MBA preferred 
  • Two years of experience managing/monitoring investments
  • Three years of experience managing/monitoring hedge funds is preferred
  • Attainment of (or progress towards) CAIA or CFA certification is preferred 
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and interact confidently with senior investment and management professionals
  • Skilled in spreadsheet, statistical and database/analytical software and applications

INVESTMENT SPECIALIST

The Investment Specialist will work with the TCDRS Portfolio Administration team to assist with daily processing of manager trades; collect, file and disseminate information from managers; and serve as gatekeeper of the departmental email inbox. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process manager trades and monitor settlements
  • Review, analyze and disseminate information from managers as part of due diligence review; save and distribute manager reports
  • Work with custodian bank, external managers and consultants as part of portfolio administration
  • Provide support and backup for Portfolio Administration team
  • Handle special projects and perform other work-related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; prefer course work in finance, economics, accounting or a related field
  • One year of experience working in investments/accounting
  • Basic knowledge of financial markets and security types
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to prioritize large volumes of work within stringent deadlines with a high degree of accuracy
  • Position requires acute attention to detail and ability to communicate well

NETWORK/SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR

The Network/System Administrator performs work associated with the TCDRS local area network with some guidance but will need to exercise independent judgment and initiative as well. Work involves network design, installation, policy development, training, monitoring and analysis of existing hardware and software, and evaluation of potential network enhancements. This position requires a dedicated professional with exceptional technical and problem-solving skills. At the same time, good writing and interpersonal skills are required.  

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports users and performs technical tasks such as installing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing of desktop and server hardware/software, network printers and related peripherals according to company needs
  • Adds new users to the network and establishes rights and privileges  
  • Performs system monitoring, identify network problems and communicate recommendations for solutions
  • Updates and repairs existing network hardware and software 
  • Interacts with end users to explain the capabilities and limitations of the hardware and software
  • Creates and maintains network diagrams and documentation
  • Leads configuration projects as assigned by Technology Manager
  • Manages voice services, i.e. Cisco Unified Call Manager (includes the addition of new users to the phone system)
  • Participates in planning of system changes
  • Helps implement disaster recovery plan
  • Conducts and maintains backups of workstations, servers, databases and network devices

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in IT Systems Administration 
  • Bachelor’s degree or technical school 
  • Setup and administration of Windows server and workstation OS experience 
  • Experience in VMware vSphere or similar hypervisor
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Server and workstation hardware support/troubleshooting experience

PRIVATE EQUITY ASSOCIATE

The Private Equity Associate will work with TCDRS’ portfolio manager and consultant to oversee the trust’s private equity and private real estate portfolios. These portfolios consist of a globally diverse set of buyout, distressed debt, venture capital, energy/natural resources and opportunistic real estate partnership investments. This is a mid-level position within our PE program, and candidates must be capable of fully managing assigned GP relationships. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the negotiation of limited partnership agreements, side letters and related partnership documents.
  • Serve on partnership advisory committees and attend annual meetings.
  • Evaluate the progress of partnerships, recognizing whether or not a manager is successfully executing the expected investment strategy.
  • Provide recommendations regarding investment decisions.
  • Prepare weekly and quarterly reports on manager performance and investment activity.
  • Source/foster relationships with potential new GP’s.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required. Major in finance, economics or accounting is preferred. 
  • Advanced degree in related field (MBA, Master of Finance, JD, etc.) or certification (CAIA, CFA) is required.
  • A minimum of three years of directly relevant experience is required. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook and Word. Strong Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and work harmoniously in a team environment.
  • Must be able to interact confidently with senior investment and management professionals.
  • Ability to travel, including internationally, is required.
