Alternative Investment Specialist


What we need

The Alternative Investment Specialist — an entry-level position — works on the investment operations team. The specialist works in a fast-paced environment processing manager trades, capital calls and distributions, and electronically storing investment reports. This position will disseminate reports from managers to TCDRS staff and instructs custodian in payment of managers’ fees.


What you’ll do

  • Process manager trades and monitor settlement of transactions

  • Determine unfunded commitment status of alternative investment funds with each call/distribution

  • Send instructions to custodian for payment of management fees

  • Provide coding instructions to custodian bank for cash transactions

  • Provide backup for Investment Specialist and assist Manager-Portfolio Administration

  • Save required reports in document archive system (BackStop)


What you should have

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university — major in finance, economics or accounting is preferred — or equivalent work experience

  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize high volumes of work within stringent deadlines with a high degree of accuracy

  • Experience working in investments/accounting field

  • Basic knowledge of financial markets and investment vehicles and strategies

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Strong quantitative/analytical skills

  • Ability to communicate well and pay acute attention to detail

  • Willingness to work from TCDRS’s office in Austin (currently four days in office with Fridays as an optional work-from-home day)
