Fall is Here! Grab a Rake

Don’t forget to rake the leaves! Keeping your TCDRS account updated could save you a headache in the future.

Leaves in the wind make for a beautiful picture during autumn, but they don’t do any favors for your front yard. You can leave the rake in the shed, but if you do, the leaves could smother your grass, invite pests and cause a lot more pain in the future.

A little bit of TCDRS account clean-up can make your retirement smoother as well — and the best part is, you can do it from the comfort of your couch! After you’ve taken care of the leaves outside, grab a glass of lemonade, sign into your TCDRS.org account and make sure everything is updated.

Update Your Personal Information and Preferences

The first pile of leaves to take care of is your personal information. After signing in, you can update your mailing address, phone number and email address, and even request a name change by clicking the dropdown menu in the top right corner of your account and selecting “Personal Information”.

Designate Your Beneficiaries

Let’s move on to the second pile of leaves. Setting a beneficiary for your TCDRS account is one of the most important things you can do for your loved ones. This ensures TCDRS can distribute your funds exactly how you wish if you were to pass away.

We recommend checking your beneficiaries every year, or anytime you experience an important life event, such as marriage or birth of a child.

To update your beneficiaries, scroll down on the homepage of your TCDRS account and find the “Beneficiary Summary” card. Select “View details” and add a new beneficiary or edit a current designation. If you haven’t yet designated a beneficiary, you will also be able to click “Designate a Beneficiary” right from your account dashboard.

Now you’ve got a clean yard, a clean account and an empty glass of lemonade. That’s the sign of a job well done! To learn more about everything you can do in your TCDRS.org account, including how to estimate your benefit, check out our guide: What Members Can Do Online!
