Add Service Time Online With New Account Feature

Have you ever worked for a school, city or the state? Have you ever served in the military? You can apply that service time to your TCDRS account by signing in at TCDRS.org.

Service time you earned with some public retirement systems as well as the military can be combined with the service time you have with TCDRS. Combining service time means you may be eligible for retirement earlier.

Now, when you sign into TCDRS.org, you can add that service time directly to your account. No phone call or forms required.

Service time with a public retirement system

The Proportionate Retirement Program lets you use service time from any of the systems listed below to qualify for retirement benefits (not disability benefits or the Survivor Benefit). Those systems are:

  • Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS)

  • Employees Retirement System (ERS)

  • Judicial Retirement System of Texas (JRS)

  • Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS)

  • City of Austin Employees Retirement System (COAERS)

Military service

If you served in the military, you may be eligible to have up to five years of that service time credited to your account if:

  • You are vested with your employer (based on TCDRS service).

  • Your discharge was under honorable conditions.

  • You have not applied to have your military service time credited by another Texas public retirement system.

You will get one month of service time for each month of active-duty military service. To apply for this service time online, you will need to upload your DD-214 or other discharge documents.
